01 / BREAST SELF-AWARENESS
There is no single “right” way for breasts to look or feel. Notice changes that are new for you and share concerns with a healthcare professional.
Notice changes in size, shape, skin, or nipple appearance in a mirror if comfortable.
Become familiar with your breasts during everyday activities or in whatever way works for your body.
Pay attention to a new lump, thickening, nipple discharge, skin dimpling, or a change that persists.
Contact a healthcare professional about a new or concerning change. Do not wait for pain to appear.
Remember: This guide is for awareness, not a diagnostic self-exam. A normal-feeling breast does not rule out a problem, and a lump does not automatically mean cancer.
03 / GETTING SUPPORT
Call to ask about breast evaluation, eligibility, cost, insurance, and appointment availability. Confirm current services directly with each organization.
Ask for help scheduling an evaluation for a new breast lump or breast change.
Visit Henry Ford Health ↗Ask about breast care services, appointment access, insurance, and financial assistance options.
Visit Corewell Health ↗Find reliable information about breast changes and cancer-related questions.
Breast cancer information ↗Ask about local health and social-service resources, including possible help finding affordable care.
Visit Michigan 211 ↗These links are starting points, not confirmation of current appointment availability or eligibility. If you have severe symptoms or feel acutely unwell, seek urgent medical help.
04 / MAKE THE CALL
You do not need to know what the change means to ask for care.
“Hello, I’ve noticed a new change in my breast and would like to schedule an evaluation. Can you tell me the soonest available appointment? Do you offer help if I’m uninsured or worried about cost?”
